FAQs
When will you arrive at our birth to start photographing?
I will join you once you are in active labour. While every birth unfolds differently, this stage usually begins when your contractions are about five minutes apart, last around one minute, and increase in intensity to the point where it's difficult to walk or talk through them. If you’re having cervical checks, you may be around 5–6 cm dilated at this point.
How long will you stay?
One of the most beautiful things about birth is that every experience is unique—no two births will be the same. Some labours unfold quickly, while others take their time—and both are perfectly normal. I’ll be with you throughout your entire labour, staying about two hours after your baby arrives. During that time, capturing those first tender moments: skin-to-skin cuddles, the beginning of breastfeeding, welcoming siblings, and your baby’s first measurements—a time filled with connection, love, and new beginnings.
When are you on call?
I am on call 24/7 from 38 weeks onward. This means that in the weeks surrounding your due date, I’m ready to join you whenever the time comes. You’ll reach out to me once early labour begins, and from that point on, we’ll stay closely connected. I’ll check in regularly to follow your progress and be ready to join you when the time is right. On the chance you go into labour before 38 weeks, i will try my absolute best to attend.
What if I want to labour in the dark?
Many birthing mothers prefer a darker environment during labour, as it feels more natural and helps promote the flow of oxytocin. However, if the space becomes too dark ill lightly adjust the lighting—for instance, I might turn on a soft light in the background, like the bathroom light.
What if you miss my birth or get sick when I go into labour?
In the rare event that I miss the birth moment, I will still come to your birthing location as soon as possible to capture those special moments. We can also arrange a Fresh 48 session—which takes place within the first day or two after birth, either at the hospital or at home—or schedule an in-home newborn session to document those early, precious days.
In the unfortunate case i am unwell and unable to attend your birth we will arrange a fresh 48 session or an in-home newborn session, you will be reimbursed a fee.
What happens if i need to have a Caesarean?
I can still be there to document your story. Unfortunately most of the time we are not allowed into the theatre - especially if it’s an emergency caesarean. But i will be there waiting for when you come out and can photograph you with your baby then.
If you are having a planned caesarean, the likelihood of me being granted access into the theatres will greatly depend on your care team. Have a chat with them, you never know.
